The Cold War was the longest conflict of the 20th century, hinging on technological advantages, secrecy, espionage and the threat of engagement rather than battles or physical confrontation. As a result there is a distinct lack of visual or photographic material relating to the conflict. It is the proximity to current history, the understated importance of the conflict and the lack of accessible visual history that provides a catalyst to this body of work.

Photographic documentation and presentation of the interior of the Bunker allows consideration of the past conflict. Showing the work in the form of a custom installation mimics and creates an atmosphere not dislike the actual experience and exploration of the underground tomb. Introducing only strobe lighting within the darkness means viewers require perseverance to decipher the images and a sense of claustrophobia fills the space. This hopefully transports the viewer more wholly to Bunker 17/5001 than a print alone and thus creating a stronger dialogue with The Cold War.
